In addition to its historical heritage, cultural and touristic importance, the western city of Lviv has been showing steady growth in the past few years, becoming one of the major tech hubs in the country.
Lviv is now home to 550 tech companies and the HQs of global software providers. According to the Global Outsourcing 100 2022, 10 out of 20 Ukrainian tech companies included in the top shortlist, have chosen Lviv as the place to have offices or headquarters.
As an investment destination, the tech market in Lviv is an economically attractive venue for starting a tech business. The city boasts a highly qualified human capital and offers many opportunities for potential companies due to the high-quality services, making Lviv one of European tech’s most competitive centers.
LVIV IT CLUSTER: DRIVING CHANGE THROUGH COMMUNITY
In 2011, a community of the leading tech companies, municipal authorities, and educational institutions formed the Lviv IT Cluster with an aim to improve the local economy and provide a sustainable income for the city. The initiative was set up within the Lviv Competitiveness Strategy, and since its launch, continues to implement large-scale projects that contribute to positioning Lviv as one of the attractive tech hubs, both in Ukraine and in the CEE. Lviv IT Cluster unites over 200 member companies, almost 30,000 tech professionals in Lviv with many more across the country, and implements projects in such areas as promotion, education, development of international relations, and infrastructure.

PROJECTS IN LVIV
One of the most anticipated tech events in Eastern Europe annually hosted in Lviv at the end of September. IT Arena brings together over 5000 tech-savvy attendees from over 40 countries, dozens of aspiring startups, and 100 speakers from all over the world.
The initiative aims to modernize tech education in Lviv universities by updating curriculums and creating new Bachelor programs. Through cooperation between universities and tech companies, 18 brand new degree programs have been launched, including a BSc in IoT, AI, Robotics, Cybersecurity, etc.
ENSURING THE RESILIENCE OF UKRAINE’S IT INDUSTRY
$8.5 billion is an expected export revenue for IT
In January-May 2022, Ukraine’s IT industry demonstrated growth compared to the same period in the previous year. According to IT Research Resilience, export revenue may reach $8.5 billion by the end of the year if the situation remains unchanged.
As of May 2022, 85% of companies entirely or almost entirely resumed business activity to pre-February 24 indicators. 63% of companies noted a positive financial result, and 13% – an income increase of 25-50%.DOWNLOAD REPORT

In 2022, the number of tech companies in Lviv increased by 8% and now has reached a total of 550 companies. The number of tech professionals continues to grow: 35,500-36,000 specialists have chosen the city for life and work. The number of IT specialists is increasing owing to the IT industry development in Lviv and the region, and due to the relocation, as over 4,277 IT specialists have moved to the Lviv region after the full-scale invasion started. Lviv’s technical talent pool comprises 77% of Middle, Senior, and Lead specialists. 34% have more than 6 years of total work experience in the IT industry, and 5% – have more than 15 years of professional experience.
